How to Change Your Name in BGMI

Short answer: you need a Rename Card, you paste the new name in your profile, and you get one change per day. This guide covers where the card comes from (including the free one most players already own), the exact steps, and the five checks to run before you confirm, because a wasted card cannot be undone.

The quick answer

To change your BGMI name: open your profile, tap the pencil icon next to your nickname, use a Rename Card, paste the new name, check the preview, and confirm. The card is free for most players from level rewards, otherwise it costs 180 UC in Shop, Treasures. Your stats, rank and friends do not change; only the name does, and it applies immediately.

What you need before you start

Three things: a Rename Card in your inventory, the new name ready to paste, and about a minute of patience for the preview check. Build the name first, not inside the game: the BGMI stylish name generator styles it and counts it against the game’s hidden limit, so you are not experimenting with a live card.

Build and check your new name first

How to change your name in BGMI: step by step

1

From the lobby, tap your avatar in the top corner to open your profile.

2

Tap the edit (pencil) icon next to your current nickname.

3

The game asks you to use a Rename Card. Confirm that you want to spend it.

4

Paste the new name you prepared. Do not type fancy letters by hand; pasting keeps every symbol exact.

5

Now stop and run the five checks below on the preview the game shows you.

6

Only when all five pass, confirm. The card is consumed and the new name is live everywhere: lobby, matches, kill feed and your friends’ lists.

0 visible characters0 / 14 game unitsWaiting for a name

This quick checker counts game units only. For styled versions of your name with the same counting built in, use the full generator.

Before you confirm: the 5-point preview checklist

1. No empty boxes. Any box in the preview is a character the game font cannot draw. It will look broken in every match. Swap it for a safe symbol from the BGMI name symbols list.

2. The count fits. The working limit is 14 game units. Fancy letters cost 2 units each, so count units, not visible letters.

3. It reads well short. The kill feed only shows about the first 12 characters. If the good part of your name sits after that, move it forward.

4. Spelling is exact. A typo costs another card and a full day’s wait. Read it letter by letter.

5. It is clean. Krafton’s rules ban offensive nicknames, including banned words disguised with symbols, with penalties up to a 90-day ban. Not worth a card or an account.

Common problems and their fixes

“Name already exists.” The name is taken. Do not ruin it with random numbers: an invisible space or one safe symbol makes it a different name to the game while it reads the same. The generator’s Make it unique mode builds these versions for you.

“Name is too long.” Your name fits on screen but not in the counter. Fancy letters and emoji cost 2 units each; rebuild it with Small Caps or Fullwidth letters, which cost 1, or drop one frame symbol.

“It changed, but shows boxes in matches.” The style you picked is outside the game font. Nothing fixes that name; change it again with a Safe style (Bold, Double Struck, Sans Bold, Small Caps) on your next card.

“I have no card.” Check the inventory and events first (the free routes above). If none are there, the card is 180 UC in Shop, Treasures.

Changing a clan name is a different card

Player Rename Cards do not work on clans. A clan rename needs a Clan Rename Card, applied by the clan leader. Clan name ideas that already fit the limit, with tags counted, are on the BGMI clan names page. Prefer instructions in Hinglish? Read BGMI me stylish name kaise likhe. Frequently asked questions

How much does a Rename Card cost in BGMI?

A Rename Card costs 180 UC in the Shop under Treasures. Before buying, check your inventory: most players already own one from level-up rewards and never need to pay.

How do I get a free Rename Card in BGMI?

The reliable free route is level rewards: most players receive a Rename Card as they level up, commonly reported at level 10, and guides based on Krafton’s Help Center also list one at level 3. Rename Cards also appear in events and some Royale Pass rewards, so check your inventory and the events tab before spending UC.

How many times can I change my BGMI name?

Once per day, and every change uses one Rename Card. If you confirm a name with a mistake, you wait until the next day and spend another card to fix it, which is why the preview checklist in this guide matters.

Why does BGMI say my new name is too long?

Because the game counts characters in UTF-16 units, not by how they look. Plain letters and classic symbols cost 1 unit, fancy font letters and emoji cost 2, and the working limit is 14 units. A name that looks like 9 characters can count as 14 or more and get rejected.

Will changing my BGMI name affect my stats or friends?

No. Your account ID, stats, rank, inventory and friends list all stay exactly as they are. Only the nickname other players see changes.

How long does a name change take to show?

It applies immediately. Your new name appears in the lobby, in matches and in the kill feed as soon as you confirm; friends see the same new name in their lists without doing anything.

Can I rename my clan with a player Rename Card?

No. Clan renames use a separate Clan Rename Card, and only the clan leader can apply it. Player Rename Cards only work on your own nickname.

What if the name I want is already taken?

Do not add random numbers. Use the Make it unique mode in the name generator: an invisible space or one safe symbol makes the game treat it as a different name while it still reads the same to everyone else.
