What is a Hindi font style?

A Hindi font style is the look of Devanagari letters: rounded, bold, handwritten, calligraphic or plain and formal. Each style comes from a font. This page shows your text in 40 free Unicode Hindi fonts from Google Fonts, so you can compare them side by side before you pick one.

Every font here supports full Hindi, including half letters such as क्ष and त्र, matras and the chandrabindu, so your name looks right in every one.

Can I copy and paste a Hindi font?

You can copy the Hindi text, but not the font. When you paste into WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook, the app shows your letters in its own Hindi font. Symbols such as ꧁ ꧂ and ♛ do stay, because they are characters, not part of the font.

To keep the exact look of a font, tap Save PNG on its card and share the picture instead. Pick "See-through" for a picture without a background, which works well on top of photos and stories.

Which Hindi font is best for my work?

Choose by where the text will be seen. Decorative fonts look great large and short; clean fonts are easier to read in long text.

How do I type in Hindi on my phone or computer?

The easiest way is a keyboard that turns English letters into Hindi as you type. Or type your name in English on this page and pick the Hindi spelling.

  1. Android: open Gboard settings, tap Languages, add Hindi, and choose the layout that lets you type with English letters.
  2. iPhone: go to Settings, General, Keyboard, Keyboards, add Hindi, and choose Transliteration.
  3. Windows: go to Settings, Time and language, Language and region, add Hindi, then add the Hindi Phonetic keyboard.
  4. Mac: go to System Settings, Keyboard, Input Sources, and add Hindi, Transliteration.

What is the difference between Unicode and Kruti Dev?

Unicode fonts store real Hindi letters, so the text works on every phone, website and app. Kruti Dev is an older font that draws Hindi shapes on English keys; text typed in it turns into random English letters anywhere Kruti Dev is not installed.

All fonts on this page are Unicode. If a government office or typing exam still asks for Kruti Dev, convert your text with a Unicode to Kruti Dev converter, a free tool from the same team.

How do I install a Hindi font?

Tap Get font on any card to open its official free download page on Google Fonts, then download the family.

  • Windows: right-click the .ttf file and choose Install. The font then appears in Word, Photoshop and other apps.
  • Mac: double-click the file and click Install in Font Book.
  • Android and iPhone: phones do not let you change the system font to these, but design apps such as Canva and PixelLab let you use or add fonts inside the app.
  • Canva: many Google Fonts are already in Canva's font list; search the font name. Canva Pro also lets you upload a font file.

Frequently asked questions

Are these Hindi fonts free for commercial use?

Yes. All 40 fonts are open-source fonts from Google Fonts under the SIL Open Font License, so you can use them in personal and commercial work such as posters, thumbnails and wedding cards. You cannot sell the font files themselves.

Why does my copied Hindi text look plain after I paste it?

Because a font does not travel with copied text. The Hindi letters and any symbols are copied, but WhatsApp, Instagram and other apps show them in their own Hindi font. To keep the exact font, tap Save PNG and share the picture.

Can I write my name in Hindi without a Hindi keyboard?

Yes. Type your name in English letters, such as Rahul or Priya, and pick the right Hindi spelling from the suggestions. Common Indian names are spelled from a built-in list; other words use sound rules, so check the spelling before you use it.

Why do some Hindi letters show as boxes?

Boxes mean the device or app has no font with those Devanagari characters. Every modern Android phone, iPhone and computer supports Hindi, so it usually happens only on very old devices or in apps that use their own limited fonts.

Is Kruti Dev the same as a Unicode Hindi font?

No. Kruti Dev is an older font that puts Hindi shapes on English keys, so its text breaks on phones and websites. The fonts here are Unicode, which works everywhere. If an office or exam still asks for Kruti Dev, convert your text with a Unicode to Kruti Dev converter.

Is the text I type sent anywhere?

No. Previews and pictures are made in your browser. Your browser downloads the font files from Google Fonts to show them, but the text you type is not sent with that request.
